May 16, 2003, Newsletter Issue #141: Beware of Poison Ivy

Tip of the Week

If you`re hiking somewhere where there may be poison ivy, the first thing to remember is to stay on the trail. Then carry along some of those little packets of hand cleaning cloths. The alcohol will neutralize the irritant, but you have to wipe it within half an hour. If you didn`t do that and you`re home and itching, a hot shower will help. Then good old calamine lotion is the best, according to Dr. Andrew Weil.
