November 14, 2003, Newsletter Issue #163: Fitness as we age

Tip of the Week

As we age, our bodies store more fat in order to protect our organs. Simulataniously, after about the age of 30, we start to lose about a pound of lean muscle mass per year. Therefore, exercise--especially resistnace training--becomes more and more vital as we age. It is a veritable fountain of youth, if you will.

Depending on your condition, you can proceed the same way you would when you`re younger. Hopefully, your experience will lead you to make better decisions on how to procedd. But you don`t want to jump into something too quick when your weak, sick, or injured no matter what your age. All the same parameters exist. You don`t want to overtrain, so eat well, get enough sleep, train smart and results will come.
