June 6, 2003, Newsletter Issue #143: Pure Protein

Tip of the Week

Animal foods, except for dairy products, have no appreciable carbohydrates. Meat, including chicken and fish, is protein and fat. For straight protein, you can eat egg whites or protein powder. Plant foods have no cholesterol. Animal foods do not have fiber. Find that in plant foods. Fruit, vegetables, and grains are mostly carb, though they usually have some protein and fat. Dried beans and soy products have a lot of protein, and with grains, allow you to get enough protein without eating animal food. Butter and oils are mostly fat. You need to eat a variety of foods from carb, protein, and fat groups for a good diet.
