January 24, 2003, Newsletter Issue #125: Cardio Exercise

Tip of the Week

Cardio exercise is activity that uses large muscles and can be performed in a rhythmic manner and sustained for a period of time (as little as 10 minutes at a time can do you some good). It typically will elevate your heart rate and cause you to breathe heavier, as your body will demand more oxygen than it uses at rest. Here are some examples: walking, running, cycling (road or stationary), swimming, any stair or stepping machine, aerobics (step or dance-type, not stretch and tone), cross-country skiing, showshoeing, elliptical trainer, rowing, jumping rope. Let me know if you think of any others.
