March 29, 2002, Newsletter Issue #82: Weight-Bearing Exercise

Tip of the Week

Weight-bearing exercise is exercise where you support your own weight. Of the traditional big three aerobic exercises, running, bicycling, and swimming, only running is weight bearing. In the others, your weight is supported by the bicycle or the water. Does this mean bicycling and swimming are not good bone strengthening exercises? Yes, it does. But you can do them for cardio exercise and add some weight training for your bones.
