Before you shoot the curl, dude, try hanging ten on land. Good surfers know swimming and water exercises without proper balance can lead to a wipeout when you're catching the waves. Get a balance board and you can hone your surfing reactions on dry land.

Balance boards are easy to make, and can be a great training tool, not just for balance, but for adding variety to your training. For example, try doing a few push-ups with your feet on the balance board and hands n solid ground. This brings a lot more core work into play, as well as increasing the demand on the chest and arms by raising the feet.
