February 13, 2004, Newsletter Issue #173: Strain or Sprain?

Tip of the Week

A sprain is an injury to a ligament. Ligaments hold muscles together at a joint, so a sprain is of a joint. A strain or pull is an injury to a muscle. Either one can range from minor to severe. Generally, a muscle will heal faster because it has a better blood supply than a ligament. Treat either one with rest and ice, and a visit to the doctor if necessary. Do not try to play through the pain of a strain or sprain.
